Welcome to the Arts and Culture page where you can learn more about the working group goals and recommendations, and view the meeting agendas, notes, presentations and other materials.
Background
Arts and Culture enriches the lives of a community, whether through public art, performances and cultural activities, or spaces for artists of all disciplines to produce and exhibit their work. The arts and cultural landscape in Gowanus is diverse. It includes a wide variety of artists and artisans, cultural institutions, educational institutions, and non-profit organizations, all of which are an integral part of the “Gowanus Mix.”
During the winter and spring of 2017, the Department of City Planning and sister agencies worked with community members, businesses, organizations and local elected officials to identify goals and recommendations to support the rich arts and cultural fabric Gowanus.
The working group was supported by City agencies, including the Department of Cultural Affairs, the Department of Transportation, and the Department of Parks and Recreation. Documents and other information from the Arts & Culture Working group meetings can be found in the document library.
