Plan Gowanus was an online community engagement platform developed for the Gowanus neighborhood planning study.
Gowanus is a neighborhood facing change and development pressure. In an effort to manage future growth around a shared vision that’s inclusive and sustainable, the Gowanus Neighborhood Study was launched in the fall of 2016 as part of a collaboration between city agencies, residents, businesses, local organizations, elected officials and community members.
The Study is building upon Bridging Gowanus, in addition to earlier and current planning efforts, to develop strategies and actions that support the local economy and its mix of uses, while creating opportunities for new housing with affordable housing.See the FAQ for more details on the study goals.
In April 2017, the Department of City Planning (DCP) piloted this website to help gather broader community feedback early in the planning process, in conjunction with working group meetings, public events and stakeholder meetings.
Thank you for visiting! Please check out the study web page for more information and subscribe to our mailing list for updates.
Tell us what you like and what you think needs improvement within Gowanus and its context area (shown within the map's pink boundary, which includes the proposed study area and surrounding blocks, as well as the IBZ and NYCHA properties). Please give us your ideas and suggestions and be specific.
